There are many other things that can be included in slasher horror films, for example the location of the film will usually be in a typical place for the time the film is set in. For example, if you made a slasher horror film in the 80's then it is likely that the location will be a house / street / town that is a good representation of that time.
Colours are mainly black for mystery and fear and red for blood and horror / gore.
Similar to the location, costumes very much depend on the time in which the film is set. For example if the film is set in 2014, the clothes will be modern and currently in fashion as it would have to keep up with modern day trends if that is the time it is set.
